Entrust My Life To You - Chapter 24
If the most obvious benefit when being together with Gu Wei was basically about food, then the most obvious lousy thing was about sleep.
The first problem was about sleeping time. I didn’t know about other doctors, but Gu Wei’s lifestyle was excellent, making him very healthy.
His daily life didn’t seem like he did it deliberately. It seemed like it had already penetrated deeply in his bones, as the regular pattern of his life. His sharp sense of time always made me suspect that he was a watchmaker in his previous life.
I had carefully observed that Gu Wei never sleeps with an alarm. He spent 40-minutes on a nap, slept for 7 and a half hours at night, and woke up when he reached the exact time.
As for me, I always thought that weekends without lazily sleeping were incomplete. After knowing that when I caught a cold, a fever, a stomachache… I would only feel better after sleeping for a day, Gu Wei became very interested with my physiological structure: “A grown-up adult could sleep like an infant, is there any late development on the brain?”
In fact, after graduating from primary school, I had never lived an unbridled life where I could sleep until late in the afternoon. The so-called lazy sleep was nothing more than ‘no need to get up at 06:45 on a Saturday and wake up naturally’, usually more than eight o’clock. Compared with Sansan, who slept all night from Friday to Saturday and reversed day and night on the weekend. Also, Xiao Cao, who wouldn’t get up until lunchtime on weekends, I thought my self-control and regular pattern of life are still considerably better.
This kind of lazy sleep which was understandable to me, but not for Gu Wei. His lazy sleep was not comparable to me. If he usually woke up at 06:30 in the morning, he would wake up at 07:00 on the weekend…
So, if there were no particular circumstances for Gu Wei, or when he didn’t need to work overtime, and I happened to be at his place on the weekend. The situation that often occurred was, waking up on 07:30–
“Wake up.”
I turned my head away and continued to sleep.
“The sunshine is already reaching my butt.”
I turned my body around and continued to sleep.
“If you continue to sleep, your head will become flat.”
I drilled my head under the pillow and continued to sleep.
“Get up for breakfast. Otherwise, breakfast time will pass.”
I became angry, opened up the quilt, and hugged his neck, “Doctor, please accompany me to sleep for a while, just a little while.” I buried my head on his shoulder, closed my eyes with my hand around his body — only by pulling him into the water, I could continue to sleep without pressure.
Gu Wei, “……”
Finally — it was really for a little while, I was forced to wake up at eight o’clock, told to brush my teeth and washed my face.
The second problem was my low blood tension. I was feeling a little hypotensive, and I need to lie down for a while before waking up. As a result, these five minutes that I need as a ‘revival’ time for my body and consciousness, became a period for the big baby Gu Wei to onset his childish illness.
He would touch my eyelashes, playing with my fingers, poked my face, braided my hair, and so many other tricks…
I asked, “Little boy, what are you doing?”
He smiled and continued to poke my face.
“Don’t poke it; my face is already big enough.”
He moved to my earlobe…
“If you poke me again, I will bite you.”
A face came over.
I had no bad temper…
Most of the time, Gu Wei was very stable. But occasionally, he could be a little bit emotional.
“Doctor, I’m going to Anhui together with the organization of the Tourism Department.”
“How long?”
“Five days.”
“Then, you will come back on holiday and go back to Y-City.”
“Hmm.”
Gu Wei supported his chin while staring on the computer screen silently.
After two minutes passed, I felt the atmosphere was not right.
“Gu Wei, are you angry?”
“Am I that obvious?” Gu Wei said it while looking at the computer screen with no expression as if he was reciting a mantra, “on average, we meet three times in a week, 2 hours at a time, 24 hours in a month, its equal to a day. In a year, there are summer and winter holiday for three months, so only nine months left…”
I interrupted him, “Gu Wei–“
Gu Wei turned his face, “Lin Zhixiao, why do you always walk away easily every time you have to walk away?”
Suddenly I couldn’t answer it.
Gu Wei turned back his head and continued to stare at the screen silently.
I struggled for a long time before simply gave up, “Gu Wei, I’ve never been a free and easy person.”
This was the first time I put all my effort into carrying out a relationship and hope that it would last for a long time. However, there was no example around me that I could use for reference. I didn’t know what counts as the standard, and I could only figure it out slowly. Sometimes I wish that I had an ability to mindread so that I could see directly into his heart. To always feel confused with his hot and cold temperament, it was not pleasant at all.
Gu Wei sighed and walked over me, “Why are you crying……”
“Gu Wei, you walk in front of me, and I will always follow from behind. Even if you climb a mountain of knives or plunge into a sea of fire, I will follow you. But at least you have to tell me whether you will go to the mountain of knives or the sea of fire.”
Gu Wei raised his head and looked at the ceiling, “Postpone your return to the Y-City for two days and accompany me here.”
“I will postpone it for a week.”
“Then, make it two weeks if possible.”
“……”
Our conflicts always started weirdly and ended weirdly as well…
When I returned to X-City, it was already more than five o’clock in the evening. I went to the supermarket before I went back to the Doctor’s apartment. I sent him a text message, “Are you busy?”
No reply means he was quite busy. I put down my cellphone and dealt with a bag of corn.
I steamed it, cooled it before peeling, and put it into the blender. After that, I realized that the milk box in the kitchen was nowhere to seen… It was less than a week; how did this guy manage to get rid of that box?
I slammed the fire on, cooked the soybeans together with corn kernels and rock sugar, then put the soy into the soy-milk machine.
Just when it was almost finished, the cellphone vibrated, “Still okay; just have finished visiting the wards.”
“Have you had dinner yet?”
“I have. But the meal was not good. I brought an apple with me.”
(Doctor, who likes apples more between us?
“I bought a hickory and ink shortbread for you.”
“I’m hungry.”
I laughed and rushed for a quick bath before I went through the four stops on the subway to reach the hospital.
I pushed the office door to open. The Doctor, who was typing on the keyboard, turned his head around. His eyes were 120% as usual.
I leaned on his back, his warm and dry fingertips, his clean white coat, a hint of soap flavor on his neckline, mixed together in my Doctor’s body.
He looked at me and blinked his eyes. Ai, how could a man show an outwardly kind but inwardly evil and foolish expression at the same time?
“You became silly?”
“……five days include the time on the way back and forth.” The man of science always paid attention to the numbers.
I put corn juice and ink shortbread on his table: “Isn’t it time for me to come back and take care of you?”
I was preparing to reach out and assail the Doctor, but suddenly a person from the desk opposite of the Doctor showed himself – it was Director B.
I stunned at the spot. In front of my eyes, suddenly a living person showed up, and I didn’t have mental preparation…
Director B’s gaze wandered between the Doctor and me for two laps, then laughed: “My shoelace was loose.”
I was familiar with Director B, very familiar. He was Teacher Lin’s attending physician. I quickly thought in my mind: I have to explain, I have to explain, I have to explain… But what to explain, just a couple that delivered a night snack for her lovers! (>_<) >
The director laughed, “I won’t bother you two. I’ll go back first.” Then he quickly collected his things, and he also closed the door carefully before went out.
I watched him leave and turned my head. The Doctor held his cup and stared at me while smiling. “Why are you blushing?”
“It’s awkward…”
“Later, if you meet my parents, how awkward would you get?”
It seemed like his brain was abnormally constructed, and I felt annoyed, “Concentrate on your meals!”
“You bought this in the other shop?”
“Is it because no milk was added? I didn’t find the box, did you drink it all?”
The Doctor stunned and looked at the cup then at me, “You—“
“I bought a soy-milk machine and put it in your apartment. I added soy milk instead of milk. Just pretend like its an experiment.”
The Doctor slowly finished it, wrapped around my waist and pressed his face against my abdomen. His exhaled breath was warm as he whispered: “Ai, Xiao Xiao.”
My heart was softening.
Special Dialog:
Doctor: When you had just woken up, you looked like a steamed bun. So I like poking it.
(Have you ever seen such a slender steamed bun!)
